Kaluga is an iconic city associated with such events in the history of Russia as getting rid of the Tatar-Mongolian yoke, the Patriotic Wars of 1812 and 1941 . But they were eclipsed by a brand entrenched outside the city in the twentieth century — the cradle of cosmonautics. Great Konstantin Tsiolkovsky lived and worked here. Kaluga hosts Russia’s largest museum dedicated to cosmonautics. From here you can take good books and models of aircraft.

Kaluga gingerbread is much less known than the Tula, but nothing to it tastes inferior. Recipes for its preparation were invented as early as the 19th century and do not change until now. To leave the city without a similar sweet souvenir is unforgivable.
