How the Cannes Festival

Cannes Film Festival has been organized annually since 1946. Since the 1950s, its holding falls in May. Specific dates change and are announced each year.

Film selection is carried out by a special competition commission. To do this, a motion picture must meet some parameters. Films that qualify for participation are shown only at Cannes and do not participate in other festivals. In addition, they must be filmed no earlier than a year before the current festival. Film makers are looking for films of interest to them and organize the sending of invitations to famous figures of the film industry. Among them are not just those whose films are featured in the competition program.

All films are divided into 4 categories. The first – the largest – includes those paintings that will be nominated for the Golden Palm Branch – the main prize of the festival. Separately, the jury considers films assigned to the Special Look category. Often it is author’s cinema. The third group includes short films, and the fourth category competes tapes created by students and aspiring directors.

The final decision on choosing the best film is made by the jury. It includes recognized masters of cinema – the most deserved actors, directors, screenwriters. Each year the jury is headed by a new chairman

Prizes are awarded several. Not only can the film win the award, but also the director, actor and screenplay writer.

The main part of the screening events takes place at the Palais des Festivals et Congresses in Cannes’s Croisette. The festival opens with a red carpet passage of numerous movie stars, which attracts a huge number of journalists from all over the world. Further, within a few days, those who have bought a ticket in advance can attend screenings of competitive paintings. On the last day, winners are awarded.
