How Ramadan passes in Turkey

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. The Islamic calendar consists of twelve lunar months, numbering 354 (355) days. Based on the solar calendar, each year dates in the Muslim calendar shift ten days ahead. From this, the holy feast of Ramadan is calculated.

The main event of the feast is fasting, which lasts throughout the holy month, for thirty days. At this time, all Muslims refrain from drinking, eating, taking medication, smoking and having sex from dawn until sundown. In the evening, the fast is completed, so until the next morning Muslims can drink and eat.

During Ramadan, people should be distracted from the needs and satisfaction of the body, concentrating entirely on God and his soul, learning self-control and patience. The meaning of the post is also a sense of what the have-nots and hungry feel, and to understand the value of all that you have and take for granted.

In Turkey, well before the onset of Ramadan, preparations for the holiday begin. At the beginning, general cleaning is carried out in work offices and apartments, shopping is made to prepare dinner rout. This should take into account the situation of the poor, assisted by neighbors, native and state. There are dishes that are unique to Ramadan — pide (flat bread with chernushka), güllach (milk dessert).

For dinner, it is necessary to invite guests, the doors of houses according to the old tradition remain unlocked in case of arrival of unwelcome guests. Dinners can suddenly be joined by everyone, regardless of status and religion, an indicator that there is no class discord in Turkish society. The morning of Ramazan begins with a meal before sunrise, so that the inhabitants will not sleep, there are special glashatai, which wake everyone with loud songs and fight in a big drum.

But not only worship and food make up the holy Ramadan, this holiday is also associated with a rich cultural life that is based on the service of faith and god. It is worth mentioning mahyu — light inscriptions hung between minarets of the mosque. They depict wise words and different drawings, their brilliance complemented by gunshots that herald the advent of iftar, which means you can start an evening meal. In the

evening, people stroll through the city, where various musical meetings, performances and theatrical performances are held. Shady theater Karagez and Hajivat, traditional street theater Horta oyunu – all are very exciting for children and adults. Turks make every effort to preserve this art in pristine and pristine form.
