Travel to Kaliningrad by train. It would seem that such option is the easiest and cheapest. But it has its own features. This structure travels through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania. After Lithuania has joined the European Union, all passengers travelling to Kaliningrad are required to hold a foreign passport. Only under this document you can buy a ticket and get on the train. But that’s not all. After the departure of the train, you need to fill out a special questionnaire on which you will be issued an OPD (simplified transit document). This document is valid for round-trip travel. From Moscow in the Kaliningrad direction trains depart from the Belorussky Station.
Fly to Kaliningrad by plane. If you don’t have a foreign passport, you can buy a plane ticket. To do this, you will only need a regular Russian passport. You can purchase a ticket at any air ticket office, representative office of the air carrier or via the Internet. Every day from Moscow to Kaliningrad there are several constant flights of different airlines. The time in flight is about 1 hour 50 minutes. Flights also exist from other cities, however many do not operate every day or fly only during a certain seasonal period.
Reach to Kaliningrad by ferry. The most interesting way to get to Kaliningrad is to travel by ferry on the Baltic Sea. The ferry runs between Ust-Luga (150 km from St. Petersburg) and Baltic (45 km from Kaliningrad). The trip will last about 40 hours. Comfortable cabins are provided for passengers, and three meals are already included in the ticket price. In addition, the ferry is capable of taking on board 330 passenger cars. Therefore, you can travel with your own car, which will greatly facilitate sightseeing in the Kaliningrad region.
