“ Not to enter into disputes and debates because, if there is a dominant, it will not be overcome by words and beliefs, it will only be fed on and supported by them.”
Intolerance as a way of existence
of Grey, much less its shades in the color spectrum from white to black or vice versa, for maximalist does not exist. How does not exist the words “perhaps, but…”. And if between borscht and pea soup you suddenly choose a national solyanka, then beforehand be ready for moral humiliation — the maximalist will seal you with an unfacially pleasant characteristic, calling at best without a firm position, a weak characteristic.$ First, you did not choose with it borscht as the only correct answer option. Second, chose their option, – and this breaks the consciousness of the maximalist. They are generally intolerant and their principles are simple: whoever is not with us is against us; a step left, a step right is a firing squad.
‘We don’t have a chance to do a lot of things, each of which can be called magnificent. Because this is our life. Life is short, and you die. Do you know that?”
So Is Maximalism Bad?
There are two kinds of adult maximalists: perfectionists and paranoid. Both move humanity forward. But, if perfectionists seek progress and a brighter future, the paranoid, often at the cost of many human lives, plunge society into regress.
‘We are here to contribute to this world. Otherwise why are we here?”
Perfectionist is committed primarily to self-improvement, and then to improving the world. Paranoid is always an ideological wrestler. Paranoid flips any life settings so that they fit with the greatest benefit of the idea that has shoehorned him during this particular historical period of human life: right only what he wants, and to achieve it all means are good.
“ Maybe this is exactly what it is necessary for old comrades to come down to the grave so easily and so simply “Joseph Stalin
There are quite a
few famous creative people among perfectionists, especially in the fields of exact sciences, philosophy, music or new technology, like Steve Jobs, for example. He and him such maximalists cultivate creative search, because they are driven by the desire to change both their own personality and the outside world.
Among the paranoid famous people also a lot and mostly these politicians – dictators who have strengthened their authority thanks to the irremovability of power. They are confident in their own infallibility and unacusability, in the ideality of their own personality, which, in their view, is beautiful and does not require development.
The death of one person is a tragedy, the death of millions is statistics.
E. M. Remark. “Black Obelisk”
Incapacity of paranoid to critical thinking, to real awareness of reality, to creative development, leads to stagnation and stagnation society. And almost always to huge loss of life. For such maximalists, the most important thing is to keep others in the sphere of self-interest, to suppress any emotional states that contradict their influence. To impose values and put in a framework beneficial to achieve the dictator’s goal.
Is there a cure for maximalism
Choosing between “yes” and “no”, you can always feel like maximalists. A few times a day, we’re them, don’t we? Listen to yourself: if you are categorical, insist that the choice can only be one of two, then you are a maximalist. If you are intolerant of someone else’s opinion — you are a maximalist. And something has to be done about it.
Allow yourself to doubt by asking simple questions: Is what I now stand for really vital to me? Do people suffer from my categoricity? Do I save humanity by being willing to kill all the dissenters with me? If you are able to confess that you are wrong — you are curable. If not, the next stage of maximalism is senile marasmus. We just have to be ready for it.
