The
active substance Xylomethazoline. It is able to constrict blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, eliminating redness and swelling, facilitating nasal respiration. The drug Ximelin Extra additionally includes ipratropia bromide, so the effect of this medication is enhanced: ipratropia bromide reduces secretion of glands of the nasal mucosa.

The effect of Ximelin manifests after a few minutes, the therapeutic effect of the drug is preserved for 10-12 hours. Ximelin Extra retains its effect for 6-8 hours. The drug is prescribed in acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis, sinusitis, acute allergic rhinitis, medium otitis to relieve nasopharyngeal swelling, hay fever, eustachiitis, nasal preparation sinuses to manipulations during diagnostics.

Ximelin is intended for intranasal use (in the nose). Before using the drug you need to clean the nasal moves. Ximelin 0.1% (drops) are prescribed to adults and children (aged from six years) by two to three drops in one nostril two to three times a day. Ximelin 0.1% (spray) use one to two times a day one injection into each nasal stroke.

Ximelin cannot be used longer than one week and more than three times a day.

Childhood Ximelin 0.05% (drops and spray) is prescribed to children between the ages of two and six. One or two drops of the drug drip into each nostril once or twice a day. Ximelin spray is used once to twice a day one injection into each nasal move. Ximelin Extra is used in adults by 1 injection one to three times a day.

Contraindications to use Ximelin, side effects of the drug

Ximelin are not prescribed to patients with arterial hypertension, tachycardia, atrophic rhinitis, strong atherosclerosis, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, hypersensitivity to components of the drug. Ximelin 0.01% cannot be prescribed to children under six years of age, and Ximelin children under two years of age.

With caution, use Ximelin in pregnant and lactating women, in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Usually, Ximelin is well tolerated, but prolonged use can cause irritation and dryness of nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, increased secretion, swelling. During the use of Ximelin, the following side effects may appear: headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances, visual disturbances, emotional instability, arrhythmia, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, vomiting, quinke swelling, nasal bleeding, rhinorrhea.
