Instructions for use of the drug “Xenikal”
“Xenikal” is prescribed in combination with a moderate low-calorie diet for long-term treatment of obesity or overweight patients with a predisposition to become obese. It is also prescribed to patients with type 2 diabetes who have obesity or excess body mass, along with drugs that reduce blood sugar. Ksenikal acts effectively for weight control purposes. The drug helps normalize body weight, maintains it at a new level and prevents repeated weight gain. In patients with type two diabetes, the drug further improves carbohydrate metabolism compensation.
In children and adolescents younger than 18 years, the effectiveness of “Xenikala” has not been established.
One tablet “Xenikala” contains 120 g of an active substance called orlistat. Adults are advised to take one tablet of the drug three times a day. The medicine is taken during each basic meal. “Xenikal” can be drunk no later than one hour after eating. If you miss meals or in the absence of fats in the food, the intake of the drug is missed.
Increasing the dose of “Xenicala” over 360 mg per day does not cause increased therapeutic effect. In the elderly, patients with renal function disorders, liver dose correction is not required. The action of “Xenikala” begins 1-2 days after taking the drug. After its withdrawal, the amount of fat in the feces in 2-3 days returns to the level it was before therapy began.
Side effects of “Xenicala”, contraindications to the prescription of the drug
During treatment of “Xenial”, the following side effects may appear on the part of the gastric -$ intestinal tract: pain or discomfort in the abdomen, calls for defecation, oily discharge from the rectum, appearance of gases with few separable substances, increase in defecations, diarrhea, flatulence. Typically, the side effect of the drug occurs in the first 3 months of treatment.
The frequency of side actions increases if the amount of fat in the diet increases, so when these symptoms occur, a low-fat diet should be applied. Usually in this case, food containing lots of fruits and vegetables is recommended. The daily rate of consumption of proteins, fats and carbohydrates should be distributed to three meals.
Xenical should not be prescribed during pregnancy and breastfeeding because clinical trial data are not available.
“ Xenical” is contraindicated in bile stagnation, chronic malabsorption syndrome, hypersensitivity to the components of the drug contained in the capsule .
