Family Reading: Stories of Care and Heart

What is care?

They say of a man:

He is caring, so loving and willing to do well. In our world, the notion of aid has become a slightly different meaning. Most often people began to pay attention to material assistance. But most often, people in need need need moral help. It can manifest itself in support, encouragement, understanding and attention.

About the manifestation of care and cordiality B. Diamonds in the story “Our daily bread”. Family: Grandmother, mother and son after the war – returned from Leningrad to their native lands on Don. Caught in famine times, instead of bread eating swan tortillas.

One day, Uncle Yegor brought them four huge scented caravays. Everyone was happy about such a generous gift. The boy really wanted to taste real delicious bread.

In a conversation at the table, the grandmother was surprised that Uncle Yegor brought them bread, because he had five children. He worked alone in a collective farm, and bread was getting to him hard. Uncle Yegor explained that he was given grain for working days, and he is happy to share bread with relatives who need help. Especially he felt sorry for a boy without a father who could take care of him. With these words, he put the sickest string in the boy’s heart.

The author of the story writes that he offended and even hated him for these words. I decided to hurt Uncle Egor too and put him in an awkward position. He noticed that his uncle smelled strongly of sweat and manure, and told him so. Uncle became unpleasant, he tried to justify that he hurried to bring bread and didn’t have time to go to a bath house.

Mom and grandmother became ashamed of the boy. They explained to him that he had shown ingratitude to his uncle Egor. After all, he took care of them, shared bread with them. The grandmother became upset, said she had raised her grandson incorrectly.

The author of the story felt guilt, realized that he had done a terrible act and decided to ask for forgiveness. The uncle lived behind the ravine, by the cemetery, and the boy was afraid to go alone. It was dark and cold outside. But the words of his grandmother: “He was raiding himself and correct…” forced him to overcome fear. He went to his uncle to ask for forgiveness.

The boy’s heart died with fear, words sounded in his head that he disgraced everyone: mom, dad, grandfather and grandparents. But he sobbed and walked. He understood that it was necessary to expel forgiveness from his uncle Egor, tomorrow it would be late, uncle would leave. Outside his uncle’s house, a boy stuttering, shouting, “Uncle Egor! Forgive me!” The author writes that at that moment he experienced deep remorse for his act. They later befriended Uncle Egor. But, recalling this case, the author feels guilt over and over again before the man who selflessly shared the most valuable bread with him.

Ekimov B. “How to tell…”

Often a cordial attitude towards people is brought up by life. People who have experienced feelings of unnecessary and loneliness often notice it in others as well. So happened to the hero of the story Gregory. In the spring, he liked to go Don fishing.

During the war Gregory remained an orphan, lived in an orphanage. He always regretted not having a Rodney. The man even dreamed of how he would come to his family with gifts.

Once Grigory together with comrades went on business trip and saw the old woman who hardly dug a vegetable garden. It surprised the man that the old woman digs a vegetable garden through force. He saw her torment. When Gregory offered to the companion to help Aunt Vara plant potatoes, that willingly agreed. Gregory couldn’t see this woman being tormented. He saw that this job brings her suffering. When they came to the woman, she was scared and said she had nothing to pay for work. Then the hostess thanked them for a long time, and when she saw off, she cried. These tears to Gregory are remembered. Then he came to her to help the au pair a few more times.

When spring came, Gregory was worried not about fishing. He was thinking about meeting Aunt Varay. The man marveled at his condition, laughed at himself, but couldn’t do anything with himself. When he thought about a future meeting, he was fine.

The neighbor of Aunt Vari asked her for what such happiness fell for her, that God sent such a golden man to her.

Then Gregory seems to have forgotten about the distant settlement and the old woman. But spring came, and it was remembered again to him and did not go out of his mind. He again imagined her digging the earth from the last force. It seemed to him that she was going to fall now. The way it looked, Gregory could not forget in any way. The voice of reason hinted to him that there are many such people, but with heart he felt that he would not leave her, come and help her. The reason for showing care, responsiveness, probably, was a bitter childhood and that on its way all – met responsive people who showed care. He was happy when a young sailor took them to the circus and controller Aunt Katia treated him to patties. Childhood memories helped him decide on the decision – to go to Aunt Vara. He wanted the old man to have no bitter days, for her to be happy.

He didn’t tell the trip even to his family members. Why did he do that? How to tell about it… Yes and why to tell… It is necessary simply to help the old man… Gregory made the moral choice—helped the weak woman and continued to help. Even the fact that he kept his desire secret from his relatives, and the fact that Aunt Vare did not tell the true reason for the arrival, does not diminish the high value of his behavior.

The

man who passed through a difficult childhood kept in himself a sense of empathy, kept the desire to help another. Caring for an old single woman became a need for his soul. He could no longer live without it. It became his moral tradition. And this tradition he dreamed of passing on to his son that he would never be cruel, but grew up a cordial, caring man.
