According to the established centuries-old traditions, this day should be devoted to mundane, domestic labor, in order to free up from it the days to prepare for the holiday — Good Friday and Saturday. But the main task of Clean Thursday is spiritual cleansing, getting rid of fears that prevent living. Good Friday is the day that the faithful dedicate to the thoughts and memories of Christ’s death. It is believed that it was on this day that the Lord Christ sacrificed himself, for the salvation of all mankind. There should be no worldly affairs on this day, only spiritual ones. On Good Friday services begin, there are takeaways and kisses of the shroud, which is in the temple for 3 days, as long as Christ was in the coffin. On the night of Saturday to Sunday, an all-night prayer is held, after which the consecration of traditional Easter dishes begins. On Sunday is the Great Day of Easter.

By Christians, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon, coming no earlier than the vernal equinox on March 21.

Traditions, betrayals and rituals

of the Hostess before Easter not only prepare food, but also decorate the house with fresh bouquets of flowers and wipes symbolizing new life and resurrection. The morning of Easter begins with the Easter meal, in which red coloured eggs must be present. According to tradition, it is with eggs to start Easter breakfast. As the legend goes, Emperor Tiberius was holding an egg when Mary Magdalena came to inform him of Christ’s resurrection. He did not believe Maria, saying it was impossible, as was that the white egg in his hands would never turn red. The egg turned red in front of the amazed Tiberius — so the tradition was born.

Besides eggs on Easter it is customary to beat. There are several versions of the appearance of this rather fascinating ritual.
The first is evil and good compete among themselves. The egg, which did not break, is the winner and it is kept in the house for a year, the losing fellow winners were declared evil and eaten.

According to the second version — there was a Christian custom forbidding this day to kiss in public. Therefore, people congratulating Easter, kissed with the help of beating eggs. Like kisses, punches were done three times.

In Russia and other Orthodox countries, after the silence of bells during Holy Days on Easter is especially solemnly ringing.

The third version says that when breaking the egg, Jesus Christ himself comes out of the coffin, repeatedly beating eggs helped him to completely free himself and resurrect. The egg in this case symbolizes the coffin of the lord, in the form resembling the stone, which was filled with the tomb in antiquity.

There is also the 4th version — erotic. According to which, on Easter Slavs to everything else, noted also the beginning of field work. On this occasion, they baked kulichi in the form of a childbearing organ spouting seed fluid, the role of which was performed by grain. Kulichi was put on a tray and laid with painted chicken eggs. With this tray, they would go around the houses and ask the owners, “Is your seed strong and are you ready for sowing?” After which eggs were beaten, on different sides, each family had their own, the one whose egg had broken, was considered to be the owner of a weak seed. The winning man nobly gave his egg, with the words: “Your weak seed, take ours!”. This tradition was conducted in a joking way and was quite amusing and fascinating.
