Mikhail Kuzmich Yangel came to light on November 7, 1911 in a common peasant family. The parents at that time lived in the village of Zyryanova, which stood on the banks of the river Angara. Later, in the second half of the twentieth century, this settlement will fall into the flood zone during the construction of the Ust-Ilimsk HPP.
The future designer of strategic missiles grew and was brought up in a large and friendly family. Father and mother put all their 12 children on their feet. With the arrival to the deaf villages of the Soviet power, all social elevators were opened before the natives of the peasant estate. The older brothers traveled across the country and found themselves worthy occupation. After the sixth grade, Michael went to Moscow, where Konstantin, one of the brothers, lived and worked for several years. He has not only to continue his studies at school, but to work in a printing house to bring in the house an additional kopeechka.
In the service of science and defense
After graduation, Mikhail enrolled in the Moscow Aviation Institute. In those years, young people, at the urging of the party, sought to get into aviation. Yangel was not destined to become an airman. However, he studied perfectly for a major in aircraft engineering and graduated with honors from the institute. In 1935, he was accepted as an engineer in Polykarpov’s design bureau. The production career of the young specialist folded successfully. He had excellent theoretical training and expertly put his knowledge into practice. By the outbreak of the war, Yangel served as deputy chief engineer of the aircraft factory.
In 1944, already an experienced specialist was transferred to KB, which was directed by General Designer of Spacecraft Sergey Pavlovich Korolev. Youngel was tasked with creating a rocket that would be able to deliver a certain cargo to Earth orbit. To implement this project, Mikhail Kuzmich organized specialized scientific laboratories for the study of aerodynamics, metal science, ballistics and fuel combustion mechanism. A dual-purpose vehicle was able to be created. With it, satellites, as well as warheads with nuclear charge, have been launched and still put into orbit.

of Homeland praised the work of academician Yangel. He was twice awarded the honorary title Hero of Socialist Labour. Mikhail Kuzmich was awarded Lenin and State prizes.
Personal life of the chief designer developed safely. He only married once. Mikhail Kuzmich met his wife Irina Viktorovna Strazheva during his student years. Husband and wife raised two children, a son and a daughter. Academician Yangel died of a fifth heart attack in October 1971.
