Caterina Caselli was born on April 10, 1946. in the small town of Sassuolo region Emilia-Romagna of northern Italy. From a young age, Katerina was fond of not only vocals, but also playing guitar. Thanks to her youthful immediacy, hard work not by years and her passion for music, Katerina joined the group Gli Amici not only as a vocalist, but also as a bass guitarist.
At 18 years old Caterina Caselli decided to participate in the Voci Nuovi festival. And let her enter only the semi-finals, she was interested in many producers looking for talented musicians. Almost immediately after the festival, she secured her first full contract with a record company to record the singles “Sciocca/Ti telephone tutte le sere” and “Mi sento stupida”.
Unfortunately, commercially, the songs suffered a fiasco. Katerina decided on a dramatic change of image – trims her hair under a “short bob”. In the aftermath, an unusual and saucy haircut at those times will be her calling card. During the same period, she changes the record company and releases the single “Sono que con voi”. All these innovations made Katerina recognizable. She applies to attend the Sanremo and Festivalbar festivals in 1966, agreeing to perform the song “Nessuno mi puo giudicare”, which Adriano Celentano flatly refused. The next day, Caterina woke up famous. Caselli records the disc, the hit of which is the performed song at festivals, and it is sold in millions of copies. Caterina is involved in filming the films “Perdono” and “Nessuno mi puo giudicare”.
In addition to this, in the same year she performed a cover version of David McWilliams’s song “The days of Pearl Spencer”, titled “Il Volto Della Vita”. The song was at the top of the music charts for sufficient time. After a successful cover version of the song, Caselli agrees to record the album in conjunction with American band We Five. The album was titled “Caterina meets the We Five”. Essentially, it presented tracks recorded separately by the American band and separately by Caterina Caselli.
In 1967, Caterina once again took part in Festivalbar, but was already paired with Sonny & Cher and starred in more than five films.
In later years, she took part in festivals several more times, and was also a sought-after actress.
Among other things, Caterina Caselli headed the Milan music label “Sugar Music” and took up producing talented new artists. Thus, in 1992, Andrea Bocelli opened the world. And in 1993 she contracted Eliza Toffoli, who was 16 years old.
has always shared work and creativity. However, it is safe to say that she has been in a happy marriage to Pierre Sugar since 1970. Their son, Filippo Sugar, is the owner of the “Sugar Music Spa” music label. In addition, between March 2015 and September 2018, Pierre served as president of the Italian copyright collection agency.
