In ancient Greece, the cucumber was thought to contribute to the development of intelligence. This vegetable, grown for 3.5 thousand years, is one of the most eaten vegetables in the raw form. Perfectly quenches thirst (97% consists of water), has diuretic effect, helps cleanse the body of toxins. It is appreciated not only in the kitchen, but also in the cosmetics industry – extracts of cucumber can be found in creams, tonics and face masks.
In cosmetics, above all, cucumber acts as a whitening, softening and moisturizing agent. Gently brightens freckles, acne scars, dark circles under the eyes and hormonal spots, further reducing swelling around the eyes. It can also improve sebaceous glands and reduce sebum amounts, which is useful in pimple control. Its extracts are also a common ingredient in oily hair shampoos.
Home face masks
An alternative to commercial cosmetics containing cucumber extracts are homemade masks. It’s a quick and inexpensive way to freshen your skin. However, you should remember that the vegetables used for homemade masks come from organic farming or from your own garden where no artificial fertilizer is used.
Depending on which ingredients we combine with fresh cucumber, the face mask may be designed for oily or dry and mature skin. The homemade mask can be used twice a week, preferably in the evening. We always cook the mask before applying, never store it in the fridge.
